Hello! I’m Iyngkarran, welcome to my page. Here’s a picture of me:
On this site I’ll be posting once a week on things related to both my work and personal life. My work at the moment is focused on artificial intelligence; specifically, trying to ensure that this new technology, which I think has the potential to radically transform the world as we know it, is developed in such a way as to be broadly beneficial for human society. Over the next few months I’ll be forecasting the near-term impacts and risks of AI, but I plan to write on a wide range of other things.
A quick introduction to me, my background and interests: I’ve just finished a bachelors in Natural Sciences (Physics and Computer Science) at Durham University. As mentioned, I’m interested in AI and how it could transform the global economic, political, and social landscape. This is a special case of my more general interest in spotting patterns in human civilisation that dictate it’s trajectory over the course of hundreds to thousands of years. See here for an idea of what I’m talking about. Why an interest in this specifically, you may ask? Because on macroscopic timescales, it seems that civilisation has only just been born, and I’m eager to know what the long-term future holds.
See this introductory blog post for some of the core views that drive what I do with my life.
